I can think of many reasons. I just try to be the best that I can be.

Just make sure she knows you're there for her. Be therefor her, listen to her and understand her needs and desires. Some days she might come across really over-excited and really happy, she might talk really fast and so on because of her mania, other days she'll be feeling really down in the dumps due to her depression and may not know what to do with herself or find motivation hard to find. Try and be encouraging to her and keep her occupied but bear in mind that you're just one person and that although you really want to care for her and support her, you're not a professional. If you do find yourself struggling with her, make sure to talk to a professional and ask them what you can do.

Bi-polar is a mood disorder. A person can switch between phases of high's (mania) and lows (depression). The disorder is usually kept under control by medication such as lithium (for mania) and tryptophan (an anti-depressant). The best thing you can do is support her and take her as you find her.
