Hey! Sorry, I've been off for a while sorting a few things out. I noticed you left me a message a few months ago and I didn't reply. Sorry about that, hope everything is well with you

It sucks that you live as far away as is physically possible while still being on Earth from me because I would love to go for a drink with you and discuss (and subsequently agree on) everything.

I think it's the post-feminism mindset that some people have. They seem to believe that feminism is done, that the genders are now equal, which I think any educated person would say is bullshit.

Because of that mindset, any quest for more feminism support is seen as something to be above men. I can't really argue that point, I think it's nonsense, but guys seem to argue back saying, as you said, that in court women end up with better deals, or they're just out to screw them over. I think the best way to avoid that is don't be stupid enough to end up in court in the first place.

It's just stupid. Most of the people in my life are female, I get along with them better in general, and they're all quite powerful figures in their own way. They'd never try to screw a guy over, but they'll sure as hell make sure there's equality in a partnership.

Oh well, as long as you keep posting, I'll feel more comfortable that I'm not just talking rubbish!

Haha I enjoyed reading your replies in that thread, we always seem to be on the same wave length.

There is a weird thing happening now on the internet, where if any mention of gender or parental roles or relationships come up, it quickly spirals into a discussion about how western women are all awful due to feminist influence and blah blah blah...

You'd think they were Jews living in Nazi Germany. Every girl out there is apparently looking for a reason to screw over a guy... sex can only end in the girl falsely accusing the guy of rape or getting pregnant and taking him to court for everything he has got after lying about birth control.

And I definitely don't understand the logic they're using in that thread. "God, feminists won't even let us be nice anymore! What's next feminists, OUR SOULS?!?"

Haha, thanks, I was hoping to get some people angry but no responses thus far :P

I actually lol'd at some of the other responses in that thread though. I don't know what was better, the one I replied to who tried to reason that the guy was expressing his grief through feline mechanics or the other one who said she nearly started crying when she saw it. Give me a break... people get so emotional about lame cat stories in the news haha.

I like her second & third album better than her first. Don't get me wrong, I like her first album, and I love songs like My Manic and I, Ghosts, Failure, Alas itself (the hidden track) and usually I think an artist's first album is pretty much always the best but in Laura's case she was 18 when it came out and I think you can definitely tell her song writing has matured since then, even though it's only been a couple of years. I wouldn't have even heard I Speak or Creature if I hadn't liked songs on Alas. While I really really liked My Manic and I, and Ghosts, I Speak Because I Can and a few songs on Creature just give me chills.

And yeah, I wish she would play in Aus down here but unforunately nobody ever does (and since it's an island state it's not convienient for me to travel to concerts). Some rich guy built this massive modern art museum though and it's attracting a few artists, like The Dresden Dolls which I'm pumped about.

I like a bit of everything, I don't really have a favourite style of music. I'll pretty much listen to anything from country to rock to folk to pop (but more alt pop like Washington or Vampire Weekend, rather than Lady Gaga or Katy Perry). However I think I need to listen to songs with good lyrics, I'm not a fan of dance/techno/house or anything similar to that. I also have never liked RnB. And if we're talking similar to LM it seems to be a package deal that if you like her you also like Noah and the Whale, Mumford and Sons and Johnny Flynn. While I absolutely love Johnny Flynn I don't really care about M&S or Noah. They're both alright, I don't mind a few of their songs, I'm just not crazy about them.

Yeah. I used to think there was no point me posting in the Current Events section since it was full of liberals anyway so I'd just be echoing other people, but God, I feel like I'm arguing the left's side more than ever. Not even the left, sometimes it feels like you have to battle for common sense.

I haven't heard it enough times to decide where it sits in with her other albums. Infact I still can't decide which of her first two albums I like best so it's probably going to be the same with the third. I like the development in the sense that you can tell Laura had more creative control this time round, which I think she acknowledged somewhere. All My Rage is a great note to end the album on, and The Beast is a pretty epic mid-way point. I bloody wish she'd play in my part of the country, would love to see her. It's been quite a good year for music in general. I used to be a mostly-rock person though, and I think rock music has let itself down this year. I'm glad there's the likes of Laura around though to keep good music going!
