It's a work in progress. =) I've only met them a couple of times. I'm definitely closest to his mom - she's a bookworm like me.

That's awesome! I'm glad you and your dad were able to put aside your differences and have a good time. Are you close with your boyfriend's family?

Thank you! Actually, things couldn't have gone much better with my dad. =) He backed off on the authoritarian parenting and just enjoyed doing fun things with me. I have a lot to do over the next couple of days, but I have a visit with my boyfriend and his family to look forward to! =D

Awh, I'm sorry. I hope spending your birthday with them will be fun for you. You definitely deserve it.

Do you have any special plans with your boyfriend?

Unfortunately, not as close as I used to be. I've been steadily improving my relationship with my mom since moving out of her house five years ago. My dad and I recently had a conflict (I guess it added up over time, but hit its "climax" in December). The last time I visited him, it didn't end so well. We've talked since then - I was really open about my feelings and what I wanted out of our relationship - but he's not going to change overnight, and sometimes I wonder if we'll ever really be "close" again.

Ah well. That's why I'm not asking for anything extravagant... just dinner with the folks, card games, cupcakes, that sort of thing. =P To be honest, I'm looking forward to seeing my boyfriend far more than seeing them, lol!

That's awesome, though. Sometimes, that's better than any big celebration. Are you close to your family?

Not sure. Probably nothing too exciting, to be honest. =P I know we'll find time to re-connect, and don't really care how it's done.
