I came up with it from the basic principle of shifting a function along the axis. If f(0) = 0 then f(-3)= -3 which means everything is 3 (in this case hours) earlier
Generally f(x-h) is h units to the left of f(x)

They sure are not, but I found a way to kinda avoid them and that is to shunt your drinking back in time. Such that one gets drunk at 3pm not 9pm
