*pokes back* Heyy. Don't worry, what you said in chat didn't embarrass me at all. Mostly it made me smile, not many people now a days tell me that i am cute.

Yeah, The problem is that a lot of paid departments don't hire very often. One in my city only hires every few years, and there is a long list of people and you have to take a couple hard tests, And do really well on both. It can take a lot to become a paid firefighter.

I am actually not allowed to go near fires on scenes, in training i am allowed. You have to be 18 in my area to be allowed to go near the fire on scenes. I am not allowed to do a while lot on calls right now, due to my age. But like i said, in training i am allowed to do anything, that is as long as my parents let me

Oh, so the volunteers ARE trained with the same amount of knowledge under their belt as a paid one? Might as well become a paid one, hmm? hehe Do they actually let you do all of the firefighting work? Last time I checked your profile, you were 16. I'm positive you have to be a certain age, right?

Aww, Yeah Firefighters do tend to wake up early Some departments are just paid and have no volunteers, some are the other way. Just depends on the Department.

Well pretty much there isn't really any thing different about Paid and Volunteer firefighters, they do the same job completely. Only one gets paid and the other doesn't. Most departments are only volunteers, so they have to be able to do everything. My area, there are 16 fire departments. Only one of them is paid, the rest are all volunteers. So pretty much, being a volunteer the only thing different then being a paid one, is that you don't get paid.

I hadn't seen any of the Firefighter people that I know at Karate. They only go there at like 9AM, and that's when I wake up! lmao And one Firefighter guy that I know that comes to my work, says there isn't a volunteer program at his station... booooo! Oh well there are like another dozen of them in the city!

So what does a volunteer firefighter do anyway? I can't imagine that they also go into buildings that are on fire with all of that equipment.

Finally, i have been able to sit down and reply to this! Sorry it took so long. If you really want to become a firefighter, you should! It is crazy though. It will keep you busy and your life eventful. Hopefully you will get a chance to talk to those guys you know about it, and decide that you at least want to try it! You are always welcome to PM or VM me anytime if you have any questions about being a firefighter, I always love encouraging people to do it. Cause it is something that is important, and not enough people do.

I think my VM is longer then yours OH, I probably should say HAIII so that i don't seem like a creeper.

I hope you have a good day/night/whatever it is when you get this

Hi Sarah! I read your profile for the first time today, I must say I'm starting to look up to you. It's funny because just a few days ago I was whinning about how my life is not eventful enough, only filled with entertainment and then I had the bright idea of saying that I should volunteer to be a Firefighter! I'm going to Karate tonight and hopefully I'll find one of the 3 firefighters that go there sometimes and ask them about the volunteer program. Other than my paragraph-long VM, I wanted to stalk your profile and say hi!

    BTW ~ It's Matt(Phillips_Screwdriver)
