hi, i saw on a post that you have scoliosis and AS and I thought maybe I could help? I thought it would be better to reply on here because I never check my old posts lol (:
well, I have scoliosis about the same as you (33 ish degrees I think) and I'm 15 years old so I've nearly stopped growing, but I was given a brace last summer. You say that having a brace would affect your AS, is this because you think that you would not be able to move? Well, if you have a Boston brace or a Milwaukee, then that may be the case, but I'm sure you would benefit from what I have which is the Spinecor brace, because you can move in it like you would normally, it just makes it a bit more uncomfortable thats all. I have it instead of the other ones because I do a lot of sport and with the hard braces your muscles can atrophy, and that would be disastorous for me. You might want to research the Spinecor, and I'm not going to tell you that it's nice (because I'm not going to lie!) but it could be a lot worse!! It's like a plastic belt with some tight elastic bands over your body. no one can tell i'm wearing it except me and it's made my body a nice hourglass shape haha.
And you're 13, so you won't have long in it probably if you do get a brace
remember, at our degree of curves surgery probably won't happen, so that's something good to think about
please feel free to ask me questions, I'm not up on AS but I sure am a scoliosis expert! (sadly)!
and also remember, if you live in the UK, ideas about scoliosis are a lot different in the USA; they use different braces more widely and tend to operate at lower curves.
good luck (: please feel free to ask if you have a question (:
