They are. And it's kind of awkward. Michael McIntrye did a bit on one of his shows about the awkwardness of not knowing whether or not you're at the stage of a relationship to switch from hand shaking to hugging. So either way, someone gets punched when one person tries to hug and the other has their hand out.

I think hand shakes are far too formal.

Bahaha. I did get one hug. My friend Heather introduced me to her friend Andy and he shook my hand. She just stared at him. 'Did you just shake her hand?!' 'What, you want me to hug her or something?' '....YES!'

Aww I see. I always hug people, I think it's a pretty good ice breaker.

My two friends at college don't really *do* hugs. At High School, there were at least 6 people in our group (*cough*library geeks*cough who would hug you if you asked. Or if you didn't.

Everybody loves hugs, well I think they do anyway.
    Deprived of hugs?! Why?

This is true. Who doesn't like hugs?
Since I started college I've been hideously deprived of hugs. It's so depressing. Methinks a free hugs month is in order.

    Aww.
I don't think I'd mind to much, a free hug is a free hug at the end of the day.
