Hey,
I'd never heard of the term before either, but I think that "teddy" might be one of those fun culture clashes with language (like in Australia, "rubber" as in "eraser" actually means "condom"
)!
I won't talk about etymology, but I think that's basically what it is. -

I'm a second year (3rd year as of this september providing I pass my exams) psychology student. I have specific interests in child and adolescent mental health and a general fasination of insomnia.
