Okay, think of it this way, magic is light and the effect of the spell is the what's at the end of the light, normally a patch of illumination. If the intensity of the light is increased, eventually the end effect becomes heat and the thing at the other side burns.
Now think of these tattoo foci (yes, there's a special plural, lol xD) as lenses. Plus, they give you a +1 to your spell dc of your red wizard chosen school of magic. Now don't even ask me to start explaining that bit, it's all to do with the mechanics, the dice rolls and stuff.

Hm, no I havn't read that series. What's it about? The moving tattoos sound neat though. In my humble opinion though, the coolest fictional tattoos are the magical ones that the Red Wizards of Thay use as a focus for their magic in the Forgotten Realms setting of Dungeons and Dragons *takes off geek hat*.

hehe, lol, see, me too normally hence why I'm taking my time with the pre-tattoo ponderance rather than being all "omg, I has credit card, tattoo tiiime!".
Lol, I remember seeing that on failblog actually, a guy with three women's names crossed out and a fourth written in xD.

Ah, thing is, whilst I don't like needles that much myself, it's different from a syringe and doesn't go right in and stuff, so it bothers me alot less. I mean, yes, being repeatedly stabbed with something point and metal will hurt, but it'd be worth it in the end =).

Haha, yeahh...I dunno, it kind of gives me something to look forward to.
The tattoo is probably going to be one of the Mage Sphere symbols or that logo from fullmetal alchemist, I dunno, I havn't fully decided yet ^_^;
