LOLOL I think we all are like that! Whenever I read a book, I am like lost in its emotions! Feeling everything they are describing! That is the best thing about novels infact. You can just loose yourself in a different world! I just read 3 pages of this book and I was like, already feeling like the protagonist! We are dorks
I hope you have read Destined Which one did you read last?

Hi! Sorry for the awfully late reply!
That totally makes sense to me. At first, it was just a love song, and then, I kept listening to it, and somehow, it holds so much significance in so many other ways, to other people. I understand what you mean when you say "Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive". I'm not a cutter, although, I understand why one would feel that way.
That's a very interesting take on the song, but especially first lines of the chorus. Actually, a little bit of it came to mind, when he made me listen to it. It seemed more like, no one seemed to understand the crap he had been through, that's why I hide, types. And it really hit me hard, when it's so personal, and he played it for me, because it was his emotions all down to this song. I'm glad you shared. It's given me a lot to think about.
And hey, if you ever need to talk, I'm here for you. I may not understand right away, but I will get there as I ponder over it. There was a time when people never took me seriously or understood my perspective, and I'd hate that to continue. So if there's ever anything, please feel free to share!

I didn't take that long to reply, did I?
    1. Ah, yeah, I'm the same. Have you written much lately?
    2. Really? That's so cool. Whereabouts will you go?
It's exactly what it sounds like. Today we had a meet and greet, where we bonded over eating chocolate-dipped strawberries and marshmallows.

You so did, that's why I used the word too. Go check the VM history if you don't believe me.
    1. That does count as interesting! I think I recall you saying something about that early in the conversation. What kind of poetry do you write? Any specific style or just what comes to mind?
    2. Why Italy? Just because? My sister's travelled a fair bit of Europe. She loves it.
Oh boy. Two interesting facts about me? This might take a while...
    a) I am an infamous Skype creeper.
    b) I am part of my Uni's Chocolate Society, for which there is a meeting in less than half an hour. I'm psyched.

You're not a bother at all. =) It doesn't take long to type out responses.

Basically, it just means we view things from a "systems" model. We don't just look at the one person who comes in for therapy - we view their problems as being influenced by everyone and everything in their life. For example, if a teenager is "acting out," you can either look at just the teenager as the problem, or look at the whole family to see if the parents are somehow influencing the behavior (ex. domestic abuse, difficult divorce, authoritarian parenting style).

Yes, marriage and family therapists can assess and diagnose clients with psychological disorders, just like psychologists and psychiatrists can. =)

It's not convoluted at all. =) First, I want to let you know that marriage and family therapists are not restricted to working with couples and families. They can work with individuals of all ages. Furthermore, we don't just deal with relationship issues - we can help with any kind of mental health issue (so long as it is within our scope of practice, of course - if we don't know enough about something, we refer to someone who has more knowledge of the issue).

I think a certain degree of attachment is common, but you learn how to handle that during basic training at school. No, I don't think I will struggle with maintaining professional boundaries, but yes, I'm sure I will be sad to terminate therapy with some (if not most) of my clients in the future. We're human, so of course we're going to relate to their stories and feel a great deal of empathy - if we don't, then we shouldn't be in the field (that's what research is for)!

The schoolwork hasn't been terribly hard for me - then again, schoolwork has never been difficult for me. As a graduate student, the hardest thing is time management... so if you can figure that out in undergrad, you're good to go! =D

I think the hardest thing about becoming a therapist is learning the basics, and then figuring out how to apply them in therapy. I've been warned by several people that therapy will feel "awkward" for a good year, at LEAST. Therapy isn't what people on TeenHelp usually expect. A therapist doesn't just sit in a chair and have a casual, buddy-to-buddy conversation, nor are they advice-givers. You're developing certain skills, which include both emotional (ex. empathy, managing your own negative feelings) and technical (ex. assessing for suicidality, implementing therapeutic strategies/tools to suit the client's needs). It's exhausting work, and it can be unfulfilling at times because you won't see changes in the clients overnight. If your heart is in the right place, though, the pros will definitely outweigh the cons. =)

    About me
I've recently abandoned the idea of living for the purpose of fulfilling societal expectations and am now a firm believer in the beauty of chasing my dreams and passions to their fullest extent. If this means anything to you, I'm a Slythern, an INFP-T, a 6w5, and blue. There was a point in my life where I considered myself outgoing, but I've come to realize that I'm truly an introvert masquerading as an extrovert.

I drink an obscene amount of coffee, have a penchant for hole-in-the-wall places, and relish in the moments that allow me to sit aside with my nose stuck in a book. While I greatly appreciate all the little things life has to offer, some of my favorite things are Harry Potter, Disney, Christmas, exploring nature, and my little family. My sense of wanderlust will never die, but I'm slowly crossing places off of my bucket list.

I believe in vibes, karma, and the energies of the universe. I chase love and light and do my best to make my little corner of the world a more positive place. I find the greatest joy in getting to know people and hearing their stories. I think ghosts and aliens are rad. I have a fascination with the paranormal, true crime, and the occasional conspiracy theory. I watch more YouTube and Netflix than is probably healthy, but I'm learning to balance those things with my other interests.

As far as TeenHelp goes, I took a wrong turn down the right path and ended up in one of the best online families out there.
