Thank you. He had been in the shelter for about a month before we got him.

He has slowly warmed up to us now, which is a very big win. He loves to sleep under a chair I have in the corner of my study and doesn't mind me doing my work on my laptop as well as listening to music at the same time. Tom also loves getting his creamy treats from us and comes running while I put his food in his bowl.

Re: We adopted a cat!

Has anyone actually rescued a timid pet? If so, what did you do to make them feel more comfortable? We have gotten him toys, offered him food to try and coax him out from under the sink and given him plenty of space for him to roam around.

Yesterday, he did come out of the laundry and wandered to my study where he was sitting under a chair that I have in the corner of the room, so that is a massive win for both Tom and us.

All cats should be loved! It's normal, give him some time. It needs time to get used to your home.

We adopted a cat!

Yesterday, my husband and I decided to adopt a cat from an animal shelter.

He is 12 years old, who is very timid and anxious. Since arriving home, he has pretty much stayed under a sink in our laundry, which is to be expected, due to his personality. It will take some time for him to warm up to us and to his new environment but we love him already.
