Re: Getting hardly any work hours...should I worry?? - October 31st 2012, 03:03 PM

Well, I know that when I was in grade 12 I worked as a server in a restaurant. First of all, I wasn't the best of all servers, I didn't like having to deal with people who were going to be pricks to me when I'd done nothing to deserve it, and I am very much the "I'll be nice to you if you be nice to me" kind of person. I'm not going to smile and be all happy and bubbly towards you if you're bring a jerk to me, and partially because I was never trained properly there that was never something I was given a chance to hide. But I was VERY good at delivering the pizzas (like to peoples houses), but they wouldn't let me switch from serving to delivering because "I needed to get good at serving first" which I personally thought was stupid because they'd already seem that I struggled there and excelled more with driving. But any ways... Then I went back to school in the fall and I was on a school team, which meant 3 practices a week (all after school on weekdays) so I couldn't work those nights. But I still could have worked Saturday and Sunday as well as the other 2 week days if they needed me too. But they just stopped scheduling me, I still had to go to the staff meetings and I still had to keep telling them when I wasn't going to be able to work. Then I "quit" in January, I was going to have to go to a lot of competitions and was trying to get into university and their inconsistency wasn't helping me.... Then they claimed I "quit" instead of having taken a "leave of absence" like the week before I wanted to go back.

SO my point is in my experience this probably isn't a good sign. They're probably hoping you'll quit. But that's my personal experience, which is why I told you what happened in my circumstance because I don't want to mislead you and let you think they're forcing you out if they actually aren't. You really should talk to your boss and just let him/her know you'd like more shifts. You can always ask why you haven't been getting as many etc etc too. But you don't HAVE to ask why if you don't want to, just letting him/her know you want more because you haven't been getting many would do at the minimum
