Re: PERIOD - July 9th 2012, 10:21 AM

Unfortunately some of us get hit really bad by period pain and all the other horrific symptoms that come with. The best thing to do is to see your gyno or GP and ask them about ways to control it - for me it was starting on the pill to regulate my periods and make them more managable. Don't worry about being embarassed, it's a really common thing to have issues with.
I often get feverish with mine so I usually take paracetemol to kill the hot flashes, and ibuprofen to kill the pain. Eating certain foods help too - try bananas or pistachio nuts because they're high in potassium and good at easing muscle pain.
As for the tiredness, maybe start on some multivitamins seeing as periods are quite draining, emotionally and physically, and sometimes you need a bit of a boost!

I started Yoga at home for when I was on my period - exercise is good when you're on, but I find it hurts and I feel too ill, so yoga was fabby, especially positions that stretch your stomach muscles.

So...sorry for the long post, but try chatting to your doctor for some advice and maybe try some home remedies. Most of all, look after yourself! Drink plenty, try hot water bottles to ease the cramps, and find yourself a feel-good movie to curl up and watch.
