Basically, just ask. I know what you mean though, because admittedly I can be the same way (shy/ reserved/ uncertain/ inexperienced in this venue). You may blush, or have the tempation to run away, or trip while walking up to the dude and fall flat on your face, or stutter or WHATEVER (almost all of these have happened to me
). The bottom line is that most guys will be impressed.

I would generally say no, but there is a point where being quiet has its downsides. You could be that quiet mysterious dude that no one knows about (mystery is a good thing), or you could be the socially awkward dude that can't carry a conversation to save his life (this has been me before, but I am slowly growing out of it).
So... generally, no. Nothing wrong with being quiet.
