I have had EDNOS and very minor orthorexia since I was 14. I did not chose to have these habits, it just happened due to low self-esteem. It is very hard to stop, in fact I still haven't been successful 
I think support from friends and family would definitely help someone overcome it as they would be reminded that it isn't healthy and it is very damaging to your mental and physical health.
And here you are living, despite it all.
