Re: What did you want to be/do when you grew up? - July 4th 2011, 10:11 AM

When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be a veterinarian.
Then I realized I'd have to cut into animals and possibly even put them to sleep...
I decided I'd rather just own a bunch of pets instead. xD

When I was going through my "antisocial" stage in middle school and early high school, I wanted to be a librarian.
Eventually, I decided I wasn't going to make enough money with that profession.
I decided to just read a bunch of books instead. =P

At one point, I wanted to be a geneticist (because I enjoyed determining the potential fur colors for small animals).
Then my friend told me I'd have to be REALLY good at math and science to achieve a degree in genetics.
I decided I'd determine animal genotypes just for fun. =/

Finally, I decided on a career in psychology. I started off aiming for a career as a clinical psychologist, but after applying to several graduate schools last year, I decided to pursue a career in marriage and family therapy instead. Right now, it's better suited for my life goals. I may go beyond the masters degree in the future and get the doctorate degree... but for now, I'm quite content with the direction in which my life is heading. =) I chose a psych-related career six years ago, and I'm even more convinced today than I was back then that this is the correct career path for me.

So hang in there, guys! It may take you a while, but if you keep pursuing your interests and trying out new things, you'll find that "dream" career sooner or later!
