Ella, what I did when I went to the doctor for my depression was that I wrote a simple note, which was a list of 'symptoms' (loneliness, cry a lot etc.). This helped both me and the doctor. After you have given them this, the doctor will help you to help them by asking you questions. You don't have to answer anything you're uncomfortable with. Writing a note is a very good idea, I wouldn't have been able to say anything without that piece of paper, it was a good catalyst. I realise that it's hard, but in the long run it will be SO worth it!
You are in no way pathetic, it may take a few times but you can do it. It took me several opportunities until I actually said anything.
