And also, pregnancies are all medically monitored. If a woman is seen be on drugs by her obstetrician and doesn't quit, she can be institutionalized for the remainder of her pregnancy to ensure her health and the baby's. There are many countries where abortion is not legal. It seems to work there.

It very much doesn't work in countries where it is illegal. 10,000 (some have put it at 20,000) women per year die from illegal, unsafe abortions in Nigeria (I believe that the number was similar in the UK before it was legalised too - at least wikipedia tells me so
- at the very least it was high as that was the main cause of its legality) and 48% of all the abortions worldwide were unsafe abortions in 2003.
