Personally I don't think a towel/ blanket is necessary or practical, and I for one will definitely not use this method. I do agree with being courteous however.
There are many things available that make breast feeding discreet, tops/ bra's ect... and I will use these (The amount of money I've spent on breast feeding tops/ bras I would kick myself if I didnt)

I don't think a mother should be made to go out of her way to hide the fact she is breast feeding, especially if she's being discreet, I've been around many breast feeding women and theres not much to see anyway. Just a baby attached to mums chest.
If a girl can walk around in a low cut top with a huge amount of breast showing, whats wrong with a mother showing a small amount (of huge breast) with a baby hiding the 'unsocial' bits.
