I personally like having a smartphone because I can lie in bed at night and text my girlfriend, then seamlessly switch to a web browser and surf TeenHelp, then log into MSN, look something up on Google, take a call etc. All at the same time (multi-tasking is for the win) and while I am in bed, or in the car (not driving) or in a waiting room at the doctor.
I actually spend more time using the internet on my phone than on my computer
It's just nice not to be stuck to a computer. I can check
TH, FB and several other sites quicker on my phone than on a full sized desktop.
I still think that the iPad is trying to be a netbook, when it is not even in competition with them. It's basically an iTouch without any of the benefits of an iTouch, specifically it's small size.
