Hello everyone,
Looking back on this year, it's easy to focus on what we didn’t get done or what didn’t go according to plan. As we approach the new year, it's the perfect time to pause and reflect on how much we did accomplish, no matter how small. Time is so precious, and every step we take, every challenge we face and overcome, brings us closer to where we want to be.
Recognising and reflecting on your accomplishments can be an uplifting way to farewell the year and to start the new year off on a positive note. You may like to write down a list of what you've achieved, what you've learned, and what you've overcome in the past twelve months. You could even discuss it with a friend or family member so that you can reminiscence on shared memories and remind each other of accomplishments that you may have forgotten or overlooked.
During this period of introspection you may like to engage in mindfulness practices such as journalling, yoga, or meditation. These activities can all help to reduce stress, decrease emotional distress, and promote clear thinking. In fact, meditation is so beneficial that the United Nations recently announced its first ever World Meditation Day on December 21, tying in with International Day of Yoga on June 21 (which celebrated its tenth year in 2024). By taking time to practice mindfulness you will be better equipped to handle life's challenges, bounce back from setbacks, and effectively plan for the future.
As we approach 2025, defining some goals can give us a purpose and help us build the life we want. So let's not wait for the perfect time, let's make 2025 the year we get serious about our goals. You don't need to have everything figured out or be perfect; it's about trying, learning from our mistakes, staying committed to self-improvement and being open to adjusting your goals if your circumstances or priorities change.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
From Haley and everyone at Teenhelp.
