If I assume that she's right and this is my answer, then you're at least worth the conversation. I respect you enough to make sure you understand where it's coming from. It's one thing if there aren't any available; it's another if you just never want me to have one. And you would have to thoroughly explain that, considering you seem to love me so much. Or, is that just to pacify me so you can keep me where I have no real growth opportunities, but still have a job so I can't pursue others? I think if you cared about your team as much as you always say you do, then you would either do your best to provide opportunities, or be honest enough to tell them that it would be best for them to move on.
