Happy Holidays from TeenHelp. - December 25th 2022, 10:29 AM

Hi everyone,

Holiday cheer.

When the holidays come around there are some people who love them so much they can't wait to decorate the whole house, get their Christmas trees up and celebrate however else they can.

But there are many others who struggle a lot with the holidays. Maybe this year you’re finding it hard to get into the holiday spirit, you just don't feel “it”. You wonder what is the point of celebrating this?

There's so much to worry or be upset about; parents fighting, not getting along with siblings, not enough food or money, sickness, grief for lost loved ones or issues around the world – lots can bring you you down and make you upset and hurting. How do you get through the holiday like this?

This Christmas and going into the New Year, let's try to find something that makes you feel a little happy, even if it's something very small. This could be your family, friends, pets, looking at Christmas decorations, someone smiling at you or something else, feel the joy and happiness that this brings you. Everyone needs a bit of happiness, joy and love in them.

Try to take each day as it comes, find something on your way to wherever you’re going that makes you smile because when you smile, this will pick you up for a while and forget about what you are going through. Take a few minutes to look at Christmas lights, candles or decorations you pass by, try to remember what made you feel festive when you were younger.

Always remember never give up on life no matter what you are going through, all you can do is ride this out until something good comes your way, it will get better with time.

As you get older, you might look at the holidays differently and the joy may not come right away and that is really okay. Whatever you’re going through and whatever feelings come up for you it's okay to feel them and to just experience the holidays as you are. You don’t need to be anything other than who you are right now.

Merry Christmas Teenhelp!
