Wrote this a long time ago.
"Memories"
There’s an old dirt road there
The low autumn sun shining
Casting some nostalgic glow
Remembering times gone by
As she drove away long ago
Off to pursue life-long dreams
She thought she’d come back
The place that was once home
But as she looks around now
The little chicken coop gone
Pigs and sheeps no longer run
The stables have burnt down
The farm is now abandoned
Years of dust keeps piling up
Every so often, people do visit
Without any good intentions
All the good memories jaded
They spray-paint her bedroom
Obscene words and symbols
She gasps, stepping into the den
Where there were many a night
She spent with her family long ago
Filled with disgusting critters
No longer the home she once loved
She now knows, as she steps outside,
Some things are better left in the past
Always cherishing those fond memories
Of her beloved home and the long ago
When chatter and laughter sounded
Throughout the house, delicious smells
Baking cookies and pot roast dinners
She turns, closing the door, and leaves
It’s time to go back to the big city
Where she calls a one-bedroom home
That girl on the farm is long gone
She prefers the sights of Manhattan
Where life keeps on spinning forward
She sips her vente chai latte in the cafe
Writes the final words and closes the book.
It’s time to shut the door on the past.
