Re: Ovarian Cyst - October 31st 2021, 02:58 AM

I have had both simple and complex cysts on both ovaries, on and off. A simple ovarian cyst is usually filled with a clear fluid and I believe those form regularly as a response to your cycle. They are more “normal” I’d say.

A complex ovarian cyst is filled with a material such as blood. Complex cysts can have cells, ovarian fluid or be filled with blood from endometriosis (called a ‘chocolate cyst” or an endometrioma. That is what mine are from.

Usually it’s just monitored. I got transvaginal ultrasounds every few months to look at the growth of some of mine. If they become larger than a size your doctor is comfortable with or if they cause pain, they can be removed, usually laparoscopically. One of my gyns said surgery on an ovary is difficult and it’s often hard to leave it intact. Mine usually pop on their own though. Your gyn may suggest a transvaginal ultrasound or an abdominal one.

Good luck with your appointment!
