Re: Anyone ever have a sleep study? - August 2nd 2021, 05:26 PM

I had both a nighttime and daytime sleep study done; both are very different from the two. The nighttime one they attach these probes attached to wires to your head. They use some sandpaper thing to your scalp so this gel stuff stays then they place the tape with the wire to your head. I can't remember how many wires it was, it was a lot!

The room itself was cozy and the bed was comfy. It was weird sleeping with my hair all weirdly placed from the gel. All the wires basically sit behind the pillow, mine did anyways. I wore some heart band around my chest to monitor my heart, that was a bit uncomfortable. I managed to fall asleep okay and ended up needing the washroom during the night so had to buzz for a nurse to help unhook me. I had to carry everything with me around my neck hanging from this device.

The daytime sleep test was basically naps. It was complete hell. 20 minute sleep naps, being woken up. I think I had to do 4 or 5 of them. I had an hour or two to do nothing and wander the hospital and have lunch with all these wires sticking out of my head. I felt miserable after it, going home wasn't the best, I felt like someone hit me over the head. I was cranky. I remember I wasn't allowed to have caffeine for a few days before and that day.

It was such an experience.
