I've felt this exact way about some shows before! The best example of me would have to be Supernatural, which I used to watch religiously back when it was in the early seasons. I stopped watching it when the seasons became a series-long plot rather than fun smaller plots along the way. It's also one of the things I love about Doctor Who 
I think a lot of the shows I grew really attached do as a teenager were formatted like that.
