A lot of meds are now coming as sublingual (under the tongue) I have that for my Ativan as it works faster. Some also come transdermal (patches)

Edit: some pills can be crushed (check with the doctor first) we do this for our seniors who have trouble swallowing. Then we put it in apple sauce.
