We're in a similar situation - one of my parents has the Hashimoto disease. I'm in the middle of the procedure of being diagnosed as I have some symptoms of thyroid malfunctioning, probably a bit different than yours, though. What I've heard is that lots of people that have a thyroid disease actually get right results in blood tests (they've got right levels of some hormones because the body does everything to keep them so even if thyroid malfunctions). That's why you should have an ultrasound scan done, too - seems it works better to find out if anything's wrong.
