At least that's why I do it. I volunteer all the time at my parishes charity work. We have gone to mississippi to help the victims of Katrina (it is still a wasteland), soup kitchens in Worcester, making a garden for the old folks home, etc.

Plus heavy religion volunteer work always looks good on your resume when applying to college. I have been confirmed in my church as well, even though I am not very religious at all.
