One of the most effective ways to avoid such thoughts is to work out. Yes. Working out is the answer for all the negativity that you may experience.
Channelize all that energy and negativity towards exercising and cardio. It gives you immense power at the gym. Once you see the results, you'll feel so much positive and realize that those negative thoughts and self harming was not worth the person you've become.
