I am sorry you are having to go through this. It isn't your fault for leaving him behind. Your safety is important. I know this won't be an easy thing to have to do. Please know I am here if you need anything. I would be happy to support you through this. 
Also, I didn't think this was terrible. I think it expressed your feelings quite well. Expressing my emotions is one of the reasons I like writing poetry; I hope that it helped you to write this.
