how do people do it? - February 24th 2018, 05:48 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

She might be been just another statistic
But Deborah Danner was from MY community
She was well known and loved
She was in a mental health crisis
The police shot her in her home

How do people do it?
Calling the police is scary
I don't want to have blood on my hands
But I need safety

Is this what life is about?
Protecting abusers
Because they fit one of the many profiles
that police tend to target
Because we see the value of a life?
And afraid intervention will turn into bloodshed
Because as survivors
we don't want to be
like the demons we fight
And would rather continue
to battle
everyday.
