Re: How to help my mentally ill girlfriend? - February 16th 2017, 04:14 PM

Hey there,

How are things with you and your girlfriend now? It's lovely that you want to help her, and I'm sure that she does value your support. You need to set boundaries with her and let her know what you feel is acceptable and not in terms of her touching you and wanting sex when you don't want to.

It also sounds like she could do with professional support from a counsellor, so perhaps you can bring this up with her? She can access counselling from school or her doctors. She may have been raped at 12, rather than legally consented if the age of consent in your area is higher than that. It's natural to have many difficult feelings after having sex, especially after a young age, and there is such a thing as a sex addiction (though we can't diagnose), but it can be treated by professionals so worth looking into.

Otherwise, listening to her and making clear your boundaries can help. But remember to look after yourself too!
