I've noticed this as well, but have never thought too in-depth about it. I've never seen much of Glee, Vampire Diaries, Gilmore Girls, Degrassi, etc., but I've mostly noticed it on modern Disney and other channels geared towards pre-teens/teens. (Don't judge me. I blame Netflix for having a good selection. ) Mind you these shows don't seem as extreme to me as what you described, but they are by no where near being realistic.
