A poem about addiction -

You’ve ruined my life
And I’ve left you behind,
But still you are here
Always on my mind.
You seem to sneak up
In class or at home.
The simplest of things
Provoking memories of when I was stoned.
Every emotion, every event
Seems to have me wanting to go back.
Back out into your comforting daze
But all I have to do is think of your ways!
Your methods are simple at best,
Yet they are lethal, leaving none to rest.
The seduction you use is impossible to deny
Tricking the mind for “just one more high”.
You leave us to think we’re still in control,
But the reality is we’ve become one more slave.
Obedient to every whim and every call,
One more victim who is going to fall.
And fall I did, but I’ve gotten back up.
With the help of two angels I’ve started to crawl,
Back up the mountain of this thing called addiction.
The greatest irony of all? I’ll never make it to the top.
For once and addict, always an addict…
There is no conquering, only control.

Reason: Trigger labelling.
