I think it is best to get this checked. It could be nothing, but what if it IS something? Catching any problems early is the best way to make sure they get treated and don't worsen. Even if it isn't a serious problem, if you are comfortable with it, they may want to prescribe you birth control to help regulate your periods some.

While your mom may say it is a big deal, she's not a professional, and a professional would be the one to tell you if it is a problem or not. And, if it is nothing, at least your mind will be eased! And if it is something, at least you took your health seriously and got it checked.
