Solivagant has some very wise words.
But I'd like to add - sometimes there is no reason.
More accurately, sometimes the reason for depression is simply screwed up chemicals in your brain. My sister is a great example - she's on permanent antidepressants. Therapy won't help her, but the drugs mean she can live a normal (well, super-busy) life. Without the drugs she is depressed. Why? Brain chemicals. Sometimes that's what it comes down to.
