It's been a long, hard road,
Battling the demons inside my head.
Maybe their terrible screaming just got too loud,
The piercing wails tearing through my skin.
I don't mind it so much now though;
Somehow it gives me relief
When there's no other way for there to be peace.
I took the wrong path
While wandering through the hopeless, foggy night,
Buried in the darkness,
As the cold air rushed at me from all directions.
It suffocated me each time I inhaled the empty air,
My head spinning,
And I craved the one thing that keeps me alive.
It isn't worth it, I know.
I've tried so many times to rid the numbness,
But still the pain persisted.
The trees of stability that once supported my life
Have come crashing down,
Slashing at my already scarred body.
I try to run but am dragged to the ground
By the roots of the very trees that once protected me.
Then their branches reach out
As if to offer me a hand to stand back up,
And I am slapped across the face,
Making me realize I was a fool to think they would help.
With a heart cold and lifeless,
I let them wrap their arms around my neck,
Not worrying about the pain
Or the potential of my death.
I cover my ears as the laughing starts.
We have won! the demons cry,
And I throw my hands up to the sky.
It's over, it's over;
I knew it all along.
My time has finally come,
And of my next actions, I will not speak.
Not a single tear slips from my eyes
As I lie there silently in my own blood.
A gruesome murder that I chose,
The life fades from my motionless body,
And I whisper one word:
Goodbye.
