Re: I don't know if trying to stop cutting is worth it as I relapsed, again. - June 12th 2013, 08:19 PM

Thirteen days is great! Also, it's awesome that you can go 3-4 weeks between each time cutting. It's hard when all you can see are the slip-ups, but from an outside perspective, you're strong and you're fighting.

Self harm is a terrible addiction to have, and because it's so addictive it's extremely hard to stop suddenly and completely. I'm pretty sure everyone who has tried to recover from self harm has had slip-ups and relapses. I know I have. It's tough, but it's definitely worth it to recover. You are not useless, you are important.

There's something called the paper chain project that I'd like to recommend to you. You make a paper chain and add a loop every day. A colored loop if you didn't cut that day, and a white loop if you slipped up. (Also, you don't have to do it with a paper chain, I make duct tape roses with the same idea behind them--adding a petal a day.) It's a great way to see your progress because you can see all the days that you didn't cut as opposed to fixating on the few that you did. It's been helpful to me because it gives me another chance. If I slip up one day, that doesn't ruin everything and completely set me back, because I get a second chance the next day.

It's a crappy addiction, but you've already shown that you're strong enough to fight it.
