Unhappy Would I be a bitch if I didn't go to my boyfriend's Graduation? - October 10th 2017, 10:15 PM

Hi guys,

It's my boyfriend's Graduation soon. It's also his sister's wedding in the same month. Both events fall on a Thursday. I'm in my second year of university and I have a three hour afternoon session on Thursdays. Going to the graduation and the wedding will mean missing two sessions for the same module in the space of a few weeks... and it's right before assessment week too!

I feel terrible. I really want to be there to support him at his Graduation but I'm very worried by the idea of missing so much uni. Last year it wouldn't really have mattered as the marks for the first year don't count towards my final grades, but I want to get a first and this year it really does matter!

I'd feel awful if I didn't go but I just don't feel I can miss both weeks! I'm not comfortable with missing one to be honest. What should I do? Should I talk to him and try to explain the situation or do I just have to do it? I don't want to let him down

Thanks in advance for your advice

I would talk to him and explain how you feel. He is graduating from college and must know the importance of college and attendance and grades so he will probably understand. I think he would probably want you at his sisters wedding with him more than just his graduation. Maybe you can plan a little private graduation ceremony with just you and him at another time to make up for it.

I think you should talk with your boyfriend about this. Missing one or both Thursday's sounds like a lot of work to catch up on, especially when you are in second year of university yourself, and wanting to get a first!

Since your boyfriend is graduating, there's a good chance he'll be supportive in that he will know from his own experiences that you want to work hard at university to do well. You won't be letting your boyfriend down- he should want whatever is best for you!

And as it's been said, even though you might not be able to attend your boyfriend's graduation, it doesn't mean you can't find some other way of celebrating at another time

Yes, I think that you should talk to him. While I am sure he would want you to be there, it is likely that he would be understanding of your concerns about missing two Thursdays in a row. Maybe, instead of going to his graduation, the two of you could do something that Friday or Saturday to celebrate?

I don't think that it makes you seem like a bad person or anything. Yes, him graduating is a huge thing but so is you getting good marks in school.

Hopefully by talking the two of you can come up with some type of resolution.

Best regards.
