dating a girl for the first time: good and bad?
I'm a girl and me and my girlfriend started dating very recently. I just wanted to ask your opinion on the pros of dating the same gender, and the potential cons. Just so I'll know what to expect, since I've only ever dated guys before. I know, its kindof of a stupid question.. but thanks anyway.

You can probably expect to receive some flack from people who are anti-gay. Ignore them, they're not worth wasting any time on. Apart from that, if you've dated guys before then you know about the basics of a relationship anyway :) I don't see there being much of a difference.

Hey there,
As Mahray said, the one con that I can think of is the fact that some people may not be as accepting of you dating someone of the same sex. But, depending on your own situation, you may find people to be more accepting than you think as well! I don't see much of a difference with a relationship with a guy or a girl, either. I think that the basic thing is that the two of you like each other a lot and want to be with each other. Keep the lines of communication open just like you would any other relationship, and just enjoy each other's company, whether that's going on dates or spending time with each other, just like any relationship. Congratulations on your relationship! -Dez |
Re: dating a girl for the first time: good and bad?
Relationships are about the people in them, not about what anatomical parts they possess. A relationship with someone of the same sex has the same foundation as a relationship with someone of the opposite: trust, respect, honesty, loyalty, whatever-else-fills-the-blank-for-you.
For me personally I experience differences between dating men and dating women, some of which is biological wiring and much of which is social conditioning. But even then, it's not "pros vs. cons." It's just different from the other, and each is absolutely wonderful. So as long as someone makes you happy, it doesn't matter their sex. All that matters is that you feel like your best self when you are with them. |
Re: dating a girl for the first time: good and bad?
It doesn't matter what gender they are, because guys differ from others whilst girls differ from others. In the end, it's about the basic foundations of relationships. Relationships work with communication, trust, honesty, love, companionship, common ground, and/or whatever else you believe romantic relationships should have.

Re: dating a girl for the first time: good and bad?
Hiii!! :)
There are no such things as stupid questions btw! :) I have ZERO experience dating girls because I am male and gay and I've been out and proud since I was nine and a half years old (I may be exagerating - so never quote me). I'm a rare breed, I know. Even my (on again / off again / on again) boyfriend thinks so. He once told me he had experience dating girls and I asked him WHO and WHEN and he looked right at me and said "You." :glare: Yeah, quite the comedian. Anyway, enough of that. I just wanted to say that I don't know if there is going to be anything HUGE different in dating a girl to a guy (other than the obvious). People are complicated and we all have quirks and things that make us unique. And sure, as some people said there will be people who look at you weird at least some point in your life depending where you live (for me, it happens a LOT), but guess what? I don't think you should ever view that as a true con. Because that nonsense is on them and NOT on you. Every time someone gives me grief, I count it as a blessing that I am me instead of them. I don't know if this was helpful --- my first post. I hope your date goes/went well!!! |
Re: dating a girl for the first time: good and bad?
People in the previous comments have pretty much covered what I was going to say, but I just want to say love who you love. The acceptance towards the LGBT+ community is not as great as I wish it was, but hopefully you can look passed it and let yourself feel whatever it is you feel inside :)
