Law enforcement: an insight into policing

When you hear the words 'Law enforcement' you think of so many things. They are the ones who protect us from harm no matter what is happening. People who take on these jobs are putting their lives out there for us so that we can be safe. Some of them may not make it back to their own families and they still go to work everyday. Being a police officer is hard on that person and their family too, you never know when your last day will be.
A police officer drives around in a police vehicle and helps to protect everyone. They will pull you over if you are speeding or you have a tail light out or you are broken down on the side of the road and they will wait with you until someone comes to help you. Police officers will also help change your tires if you need it changed and they do not charge you, they just make sure you are okay. Other police officers work in jails; when a road officer comes in with someone who has done something wrong these officers will book them and put them in a room with other people, the doors are locked and only the officers can open them.
Next you have the K9 officers, they have a dog that has special training and this dog helps them out when they are driving around. When they pull someone over, the dog will smell the car to see if they have anything in it. The dogs are also trained to find missing people who are lost. These K9 officers will never give up when they are trying to find someone who is lost. Their job is to find that person no matter what. K9 dogs are also trained to smell bombs in a building, they will let the offices know when they have found someone or something. These dogs go through puppy training first and then they are sent to police training to become a K9 dog and it takes up to a year to get them ready. The K9 dogs wear a bulletproof vest and badge.
Then you have Detective, the only way to become one is to be a police officer first and then you can take the test and pass it. Detectives will collect all of the information and put it together to solve the crime. This can take some time because it is hard putting all of the information together, it is like a big puzzle they are trying to solve. Some cases can be solved in days and others take a lot longer. The US Marshals are the officers who take the inmates on an airplane and they are going to prison. Then you have the SWAT team, they are protected from head to toe. They wear eyewear, helmet, gloves, pads, arm bands and a bulletproof vest.
You have shop with a cop; this is when kids and teenagers sign up two weeks before Christmas and they get to go shopping around the grocery stores with the police officers. The K9 teams are there too, and all of the money that the kids and teenagers get to buy their family members gifts is donated by businesses and anyone else who wants to donate. This way everyone will be able to get something for the holidays. You also have a soda pop or donut with a police officer. The kids and teenagers are able to meet at a restaurant or donut shop and sit down, have a soda pop or donut with a police officer, and just talk and see that they are not scary or horrible people. They are people who protect us and we can always go to them always no matter what is happening.
I know that a lot of people do not like police officers right now, but they are not all horrible people. Some of them do things that are not ok to do but the rest are really good officers just doing their job and protecting us from harm.
