What is Galentine's Day?
Galentine's Day is a holiday dedicated to celebrating and supporting the women in your life, whether family, friends, or coworkers. It is celebrated on February 13th, the day before Valentine's Day. Galentine's Day was created by the show Parks and Recreation. The main character, Leslie Knope, invented Galentine's Day to celebrate the women she cared about. She treated them to a waffle brunch and surprised them with heartfelt gifts. The day gained traction and became celebrated in real life. It has become so popular that some stores have even began advertising the holiday.
Celebrating Galentine's Day
While Leslie Knope treated the women in her life to a brunch, there are other ways to celebrate Galentine's Day.- Cook a special dinner or dessert for the people in your life. Make some of their favorite things or try a new recipe. Making homemade food shows that you care.
- Create something. For example, make personalized cards, do an art project, or write a story or poem for each person you would like to celebrate.
- Have a movie night. Watch an empowering, women-focused movie, or even something like a comedy. Don't forget the popcorn!
- If you do wish to purchase a gift, you can tailor it to each individual person and what they like. Websites such as Etsy offer handmade gifts that are sure to please.
- Treat yourself. Parks and Recreation also emphasizes self-care and treating yourself. Go get a mani-pedi, a massage, or go to the spa with your loved ones.
- Celebrate one another. Cheer on your loved ones' accomplishments and successes.
- Spend time with someone. Even something simple like talking, taking a walk, or playing a board game can be a great way to bond.
It is clear that Galentine's Day is a great way to celebrate and empower women. No matter how you decide to celebrate, showing your love and admiration for the women in your life can leave everyone feeling positive.
