Explaining gender dysphoria for professionals.

My gynecologist said I have the option to get a hysterectomy if I get two letters from therapists and one from a doctor. What points would you include when talking to them about gender dysphoria to medical providers and therapists?

Re: Explaining gender dysphoria for professionals.

I would explain how you feel, that is the biggest point in my opinion. Explain how you feel when you get your period, how it affects you emotionally/mentally/physically, explain how that while you understand hysterectomies are not generally advised for AFABs of a certain age — and this is an archaic viewpoint that needs to go away — that you are not interested in having children nor do you ever want to have children.

I would also advocate for AFABs having elective hysterectomies at a younger age. It sounds like homework, but you can help clinicians and therapists understand that this is not something to be done on an impulse. Collect academic resources on gender and body dysphoria; and it might actually help you, because it shows that you understand what you're asking and you're prepared to go ahead with it.
