The 5 Worst States for LGBT Rights
So the LGBT community has been hit hard this year, but many of the things have happened are positive.
For instance two supreme court cases are now up there for same sex marriage. I believe they will be decided in June 2013. The LGBT community was targeted during this year's National Suicide Prevention week. Oreo and kraft products came out in support for the community. Along with Kraft, General Mills also came out in support. Plus scientists have been able to prove that Hoosexuality isn't genetic, its epigenetics. So now its in the news about the worst five states in the U.S.A. for LGBT rights. And people are making it a big deal because of the 2 supreme court cases. I bet I'm not the only one curious to know which states they are. 5) California -I'm surprised on this one. California calims that it is one of the best states for gay rights. But they had a Proposition 8 that back in 2008 that claimed to ban same-sex marriage. 4) Mississippi -Only 13% of voters believe same sex marraige should be legal. 3) Michigan -I'm surprised this isn't number one. Detroit was basically named the most homophobic city this year. Same sex couples aren't even allowed to adopt here. 2) Tennesse -I understand this one, but then again you have all those country stars coming out in support of gays like Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts. They also passed a law saying that bullying is okay for religious reasons and such, but so did Michigan. 1) Virginia If you'd like more on the states you can go to this link: http://www.policymic.com/articles/21617/the-5-worst-states-for-lgbt-rights-in-america |
Re: The 5 Worst States for LGBT Rights
Keep in mind, scientists have not 100% proved that homosexuality is epigenrtics, that is just where the science is currently pointing. (but that is more for the other thread)
Happy Arizona stayed off the list. :nosweat: |
Re: The 5 Worst States for LGBT Rights
I'm SHOCKED Florida isn't on there. While Orlando may have a very large gay community Florida as a whole doesn't seem to be too pro-gay. The panhandle alone...

Re: The 5 Worst States for LGBT Rights
I'm not really as surprised with California as I could be. Some of these though I never knew about so I learned a lot from some of these statistics and the cities' places on this list. I'm glad Connecticut's not up there though! :D

Re: The 5 Worst States for LGBT Rights
I'm shocked to see California. West Hollywood and San Francisco are gay capitals.

Re: The 5 Worst States for LGBT Rights
Actually in Michigan you can choose your gender and adoption has not been tested therefore its not that they can't adopt there ja

Re: The 5 Worst States for LGBT Rights
I'm surprised at Michigan. Yeah Detroit may be homophobic, but that's probably a result of the demographic makeup, racial and socioeconomic. Ann Arbor is pretty gay-friendly. I'm also surprised at this thread being labeled "triggering." Please reserve that label for threads that need it.
