Unhappy Pregnant, or just stressed?? - January 15th 2012, 07:56 PM

My last period was on Dec. 15, and my boyfriend and I had protected sex a couple of times in the weeks after (around the 26-30). As far as I know, the condoms never broke and he used them correctly; however, I am not on birth control. I'm mainly freaking out because the days we had sex were the days that I was possibly ovulating (really bad move on our part.)

My lower abdomen has been feeling slightly harder than usual, my breasts are a little sore, and my period hasn't come yet. I'm also bloated and gassy (ew, lol)

I'm going to take a pregnancy test if my period doesn't come in the next couple of weeks, but I'm wondering if maybe I'm just stressing too much? Could the symptoms I'm feeling be caused by stress, or maybe just be PMS? I always get bloated before and during my period.

I'm 19, and in no way ready for a child.

Wow, I am in the exact same situation as you are in right now. The only difference....I'm only 17. My next period was supposed to be last Thursday or Friday (January 12 or 13), and I still haven't started. I'm freaking out, especially since I am still in high school and my boyfriend and I live 6000 miles away from each other. I'm going to be taking a pregnancy test on tuesday, because that is when I can go buy one.

Of course, there is a slight chance of pregnancy because you're having sex. No birth control is 100%. But, you aren't aware of any condoms breaking, and you're aware that he used them properly. Stress can cause your period to be late, but if you were pregnant, you wouldn't be experiencing any pregnancy symptoms just yet. It's still too early for that because you'd be around 2 weeks pregnant. You usually don't know you're pregnant in the first month, but since it's been two weeks since you've had sex, you can take a pregnancy test now and get an accurate result. Your period isn't technically late, since it's only been a month since your last period as of today. I'd wait a few more days to take a test to make sure.

Your period won't come on the exact same day every month. I would wait another week and see if it comes, because it could just be late for other reasons, such as stress.
Once it has been two weeks since the last time you had sex, then take a test.

And here you are living, despite it all.

Thanks for the advice!
Do you know around when I would start to notice my uterus expanding? (If I'm pregnant)
It's just the stiffness around my lower abdomen that has me worried...

That could be normal abdominal cramps. My stomach feels hard around my period, even if I don't feel the cramping in my stomach.

If you're pregnant, you'd notice it around the 3-4 month mark, though, it differs for everyone. My sister started "showing" in her 3rd month, but I know another girl who didn't start to show until her 6th month. It's different for everyone, so I can't really give you a definite time.
