Pregnant!!!!!!!!!!! -
January 23rd 2010, 12:34 PM
My Boyfriend and I have been trying for about a month now to get pregnant!!! Today I found out that we have been successful!!! I took a pregnancy and two lines showed up!!! Im super happy now and so is he!!! My question is are one prenatal vitamin enough, Ive been on them for about 2 weeks now, and yea I looked at the back and everything seems to be good. Some people say that you should take more folic acid but im not sure. Im on centrum materna. Also around how far along are most people before they start getting a baby room ready and what not?

As long as they're prenatal vitamins, you shouldn't have to take another. I didn't start working on my son's room until when I had the baby shower, which was right around 7 months.
Hope you have a healthy and easy pregnancy.

Sometimes when I turn i have these really sharp cramping pains on my left side. they go away almost as soon as they come, but they are enough to feel. is this normal?

I don't know about the cramps, but mention them to your doctor when you see him/her next.
Congrats, by the way.
Generally people leave it a few months until they tell people, just incase something goes wrong and such. Generally, once they've told people thats when they start getting the room ready and such, but its entirely up to you.
Either way.
Congrats again

Cramps are normal, I had pretty good cramps for the first few weeks of being pregnant, as long as you're not spotting or anything then you're fine. I'm on Materna, it has everything you need in it plus your body will tell you through cravings if you start getting low on anything.
Personally hubby and I started our nursery before we even started trying to concieve, its totally up to you, if you want to find out the gender and paint the room to match then wait it out... its all up to you when you want to start on that little project.
Best of luck and congrats!

I only took folic acid which was perscribed from my doctor which was one a day, when you get your midwife she will give you all that advice you need in keeping yourself and the baby healthy.
I started getting nursery decorated about 6 months :] and bought and collected stuff all the way through :] x

I got that too. It's normal. Cramping is to be expected during pregnancy... As long as there's no bleeding, you should be fine.

Congrats!!! I'd say cramping is normal, so long as there's no spotting... I've had and still get a lot of cramps, especially when I move to quickly.
We've just started buying stuff in now, and I'm 25 weeks, but I'd say start when ever you like.... its hard not to get excited!

Well on one hand congrats..
On the other hand... I STRONGLY advise you not to start baby shopping until you are at LEAST 4 months along. I'm not trying to scare you, or trying to be mean but miscarriages DO happen and if you go out now and buy baby stuff that stuff will just be there as a reminder to constantly nag at your heart.
As for vitamins, as long as there is a certain amount of folic acid in your prenatals you're fine. Your doctor will know the amount.. you can also bring your current bottle into your doctor and ask him/her if its a good brand.
We started getting baby items in our 5th month once we found out the sex, then started stocking up on diapers in the 7th month.

In a lot of cultures it is taboo to start preparing for a baby (like making the babies room) during the first trimester, since the chance of a miscarriage is much higher then in the second and third trimester. In some cultures women don’t even tell people there are pregnant until their second trimester. I know a lot of women who practice this second trimester tradition.
But it would make sense to me to wait until your 5th month (in the second trimester anyways) to start to decorate, so you can coordinate colors with the baby's gender. : )

I agree with Lizzie and Amy. You may want to wait a bit. Just in case.
Good luck though. :]

Well I would think drinking milk would be important, just eating healthy foods. You could ask your Doctor about vitamins you can take, because I've never been pregnant before.

My favourite book has to be 'A best friends guide to pregnancy'
Its great because its so down to earth, and funny, but gives you loads of REAL advice.... like how to deal with all the little bits and none doctory stuff (it talks about all the important stuff too) lol.
Best line in the book.... 'Don't insult your midwife/doctor... there in charge of your pain killers'

I was about 16 weeks before I allowed anyone to buy ANYTHING for Kain...but I had also gone through the experience of buying stuff early, then having a miscarriage and having to give it all away so I didn't have to look at it. I advise waiting to buy stuff for the baby for a bit. Wait until you find out the sex (if you do) that way you have gender specific stuff.

pains are normal. I got those at the beginning of my pregnancy. i still get sharp pains like cramps but its nothing serious says my doctor, She says if i see blood like a period THEN is the time to go to the hospital but luckily i haven't had that [Phew!]
Just wait til you're further along and you feel the baby move. its the best feeling in the world. However, it might keep you up at night, that's what mine does to me sometimes. lol
