Pregnant, sore throat? -
June 27th 2015, 08:44 PM
Okaaayyy... I'm on my Honeymoon (Hawaii) and we are leaving tonight. Here's my issue, I'm about 10 weeks pregnant and I've had this sore throat for about 3 days (we've been here for 5 days now). I've been coughing a lot and my throat really hurts. It's going to be Sunday before I get back home and I definitely can't go to a hospital in a different state because I can't afford it but my insurance will cover it in state. I'm wondering if I should go to the ER when I get home or should I see if it gets better? I have no idea if it could be allergies or if it could be the flu, strep, etc. All I know is it's hard to sleep at night, my nose is really stuffed up, I'm coughing a lot, and my throat hurts.
What should I do? I have to work on Monday too and so I can't take off to see the doc since I've been gone for a week.

If I were you I would call your doctor and ask about safe, over the counter medications you can take while pregnant to help your symptoms. If they keep getting worse after trying to wait it out, with some recommended over the counter medications, then I would go in to see the doctor.
Hope this helps! Take care~

Most of the time, coughs and sore throats are viral. What I would recommend you doing is to call and schedule an appointment so when you get back, you can go to the appointment if you are still sick.
I doubt it is the flu. I haven't swabbed someone for the flu since April. You were traveling in close quarters with a bunch of people to get to Hawaii so the chances of getting sick were pretty high.

It's important that you get illnesses sorted out, especially since you're pregnant. Have you gone to see the doctor yet? I think that you should call and determine what you can take OTC, if you haven't yet. If it gets worse, then seeing a doctor for a diagnosis is probably what's best.

I saw a doctor and it was a sinus infection. Thank you all for the help. Can an admin please close this thread? Thank you.
