My friend is pregnant, a bit confused - August 3rd 2014, 06:22 AM

So, somewhere around the end of last year, my friend's boyfriend got her pregnant. She's only 14, she'll be 15 when she has the baby. I'm a bit confused-- what do you think will happen? She'll be like.. in her last days when we start school.

Not sure what to think. A bit weird.

Just needed to post this, I guess.

My best guess is she will probably stay home from school for a while. Also not sure why it is your business.....

This sort of thing all depends on an individual basis, there's no clear manual on what should happen when you have a baby young.

Chances are, if she's very late on in her pregnancy, she won't be going to a regular school. And she won't be going back to school for a while as she has the baby to look after.

Like I said, this totally depends on the situation and it's what she and her family decide is what's best for her and the baby.

I don't think you need to think anything, though. Just take this as a lesson to be protected when you have sex so that you don't have to go through a teenaged pregnancy.

It's not really my business, but I think of her as a close friend.

Anyways, thanks for the posts.

She would most likely do one of two things, A. Drop out of school because it would be difficult to manage a kid and getting education. or B. Do safe surrender of the kid or set the kid up for adoption so she could continue school.

She'll either be out of school for a while to take care of the baby, or give it up for adoption and continue going to normal school. And if she is out of school she may take online classes. Again, I've never known any pregnant teens, this is just my guess.

Re: My friend is pregnant, a bit confused - August 6th 2014, 03:53 AM

It depends on the resources available to her. Some schools who have a higher rate of teen pregnancy may set up day care services however that is super, super rare.

Now with online schooling, some teenagers decide to take that route as they can stay home and still work on school work. It may not be the best option but it may be the most flexible.

Some choose to get a GED or do post-secondary options online.

Chances are she won't go back to school for a few weeks after delivery to help with bonding/adjustment/recovery but she may be able to attend after that.

Without knowing what type of support and resources available to her, it is hard to say.

Re: My friend is pregnant, a bit confused - August 7th 2014, 06:54 PM

I know a number of girls who had babies at a age that many would consider "too young" and it worked out for the even if it didn't work out at the "normal" pace expected.

There are a number of choices for her depending on her boyfriend (or lack of) and her parents ability to support her (or inability), for example, she might opt to keep going to school if someone can care for the baby such as a parent or day care (I had a friend who did that) but chances are she'll still miss some school initially and will probably make arrangements with the teachers to get her work at home and have tutors and such.

She might also decide to give the baby up for adoption

There are so many factors which determine what will happen to her.

But no matter what this will not be an easy choice for her and it will affect her in some really big way. So if she is a good friend just try to be supportive. If she is the first friend of yours to get pregant I can understand why this would be confusing for you.

she can even get her parents to baby sit for her while she goes to school or she can do her schooling at home like distance education. hope things go well for her.
it will be hard and I hope her pregnancy is easy and things go well.

If she decides to keep the baby she doesn't have to stay out of school. It would probably be more beneficial for her and her baby's future if she did what she could to stay in school and continue her education. The fact is that things in her life are going to change but hopefully she will have the support of her parents and they will be able to make this work. She might have to go one homeschooling or do online school for a while. But, if she has the proper support she can make this work. It isn't going to be easy so the best thing you can do is try and support her if you can. Hopefully everything will turn out alright in the end.

Hey, I was in your friends situation 2 years ago. I was gang-raped walking home from dance class. And I got pregnant.
I'm 14 now and my beautiful baby girl is a year old.
Your friend could get an abortion, but I highly don't recommend it. If she wants to, you can give her my email. or dm me.
Hope I can help.

Some schools have a creche / day care in the school so she might be able to do that. or she might be able to find someone to look after the baby whilst she studies.
